The Office of International Affairs is pleased to announce the launch of NCHU ARCH’s fourth issue in September 2022. As with the precious three publications in the series, this issue draws on our three major commitments—to ensure academic continuity, increase international visibility, and strengthen international exchanges. These are illustrated through a selection of projects falling under the themes of Ascension, Research, Collaboration and Haven.

In the first unit Ascension, we highlight the new School of Medicine Post Baccalaureate Program launched jointly by NCHU and local hospitals. Combing prestigious institutions to join forces to create an affordable and holistic healthcare system for the local community.

Research introduces Dr. Su-Chin Chen, who received the “Outstanding Research Award of the National Science and Technology Council” in 2022. His famous "breathing check dam" and field scale natural dam breach experiments to find a balance between disaster prevention and ecosystems have also provided an informative database for an international panel of experts.

The Collaboration unit highlights the international research team led by Dr. Ming-Hon Hou, Distinguished Professor from the NCHU Institute of Genomics and Bioinformatics and scientists from Emory University (USA) and University College London (UK) and their work to develop new strategies to treat neurological diseases.

Haven introduces NCHU University Social Responsibility highlighted program, StrayLOHAS, led by Dr. Lin Shiun-Long, Associate Professor from the NCHU Department of Veterinary Medicine. The program founded the first clinic in Taiwan, particularly for stray animals, and constantly visits remote area to neuter, spay, and vaccinate animals in shelters. The program is committed to cultivating vet talents, delivering animal welfare education, and linking internationally, aiming to resolve the stray animal issue in Taiwan.

In our final unit, we present the NCHU Art Gallery's collection, guiding you to enjoy the beauty and elegance of National Chung Hsing University as illustrated in the lacquer artworks by renowned artist Li-Shu Huang. The exhibition transcends the classic aesthetic perspective and displays powerful uniqueness through the artifacts.

I would like to express my gratitude to each photographer whose contributions help to enhance the quality of NCHU ARCH and also to Siuo-Ling Cheng (Julia), Yu-Chun Liao (Claire), Yu-Ying Chen (Jennifer), and Ching-Yang Shiang (Ava) who have contributed significant efforts over an extended period in helping to develop the third issue.

Due to COVID-19, many countries still control overseas mail entry. Considering the difficulties associated with mail and transport during the ongoing pandemic, as well as trying to reduce carbon footprint, ARCH magazine has simultaneously issued an online version for our overseas sister schools and alumni.

Full magazine can be accessed by scanning the QR code.
