NCHU Taiwan-Europe Connectivity Scholarship

Introduction

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) established the Taiwan-Europe Connectivity Scholarship in 2021 to encourage European students to undertake short-
term studies in Taiwan and enhance Mandarin Chinese proficiency. National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) starts implementing the scholarship from 2024 Spring semester. The scholarship slots are reviewed and adjusted each year.  

Eligibility

  1. Students (without a Chinese or Taiwanese nationality) enrolling at a university in the below-mentioned countries are eligible for the scholarship: Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden. 
  2. Nominated by partner universities with Exchange Program

Selection Process

  1.  In the exchange program nomination process, partners from eligible countries should nominate students for the scholarship at the same time. They are asked to put priority ranking for eligible students as a way of nomination. The assessments for the priority ranking shall be decided by our partners. 
  2. NCHU will distribute the scholarship slots to each institution as evenly as possible. The priority ranking helps us decide who shall receive the scholarship. 

Notices 
• If any changes to the selection process, we will announce them to our partners before the exchange nomination starts. 
• Every student can apply and receive the scholarship once. 

Conditions for Receiving the Full Scholarship 

  1. Students must take and pass at least 1 Practical Chinese course (3 hours per week, 3 credits). 
  2. Students need to participate in English immersion activities designed and conducted by NCHU at local elementary. 
  3. Students should attend at least 1 exchange experience sharing event. They will need to introduce their home universities to NCHU students. 
  4. Students should become an international buddy for NCHU students, who would like to exchange at their home countries/home universities in the near future. 
  5. Students would need to submit report about their experience in Taiwan before leaving NCHU.  
  6. Selected students should sign terms and conditions before starting date of semester.

Taiwan–Europe Semiconductor Scholarship

Introduction

The Taiwan–Europe Semiconductor Scholarship Program, established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), aims to cultivate semiconductor professionals from Central and Eastern Europe and to strengthen the resilience and cooperation of the Taiwan–Europe supply chain.

Eligibility

  1. Nationality: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Kosovo, or Albania. (Applicants holding citizenship from mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau are not eligible.)
  2. Exchange, Degree Seeking Students in the semiconductor-related programs, whose purpose is to take advanced semiconductor courses offered by Taiwan’s “National Key Field Research Academy (undergraduate year 2 or above, master’s, or doctoral level).
  3. Czech students are eligible for the internship scholarship provisions under the aforementioned program and are enrolled in fields related to lasers, artificial intelligence, and electric vehicles.

Scholarship 

  1. Exchange students: 
    • Tuition: NT$60,000 per semester.
    • Airfare: economy-class round-trip between Taiwan and the recipient’s home country (the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Poland, Kosovo, and Albania), with maximum reimbursement of NT$50,000 per one-way ticket
    • Monthly Stipend: NT$30,000 
  2. Degree Seeking Students:
    • Tuition:NT$120,000 per academic year (up to 2 years for master's students, and up to 4 years for doctoral students)
    • Airfare: economy-class round-trip between Taiwan and the recipient’s home country (the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Poland, Kosovo, and Albania), with maximum reimbursement of NT$50,000 per one-way ticket
    • Monthly Stipend: 
      NT$30,000— for master’s students
      NT$40,000 — for doctoral students
    • Internship Stipend: Within six months after completing the program, scholars may apply for up to three months of internship support (NT$30,000/month for bachelor’s & master’s; NT$40,000/month for PhD). (Monthly Stipend and Internship Stipend could not overlap)

Notices 
• Studnets must not have previously studied in Taiwan at the same degree level for which they are applying.
• Must not have had any scholarship revoked by the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) or its affiliated institutions.
• During the scholarship period, recipients may not simultaneously receive any other financial aid from Taiwanese government agencies, institutions, or universities.
• All reimbursements and payments are subject to the availability of scholarship funds and require official payment receipts for processing. 

Conditions for Receiving the Full Scholarship 

  1. Eligible applicants must hold Czech, Slovakian, Lithuanian, Polish, Kosovar, or Albanian nationality.
  2. Applicants must be currently enrolled students at a recognized institution offering relevant academic programs.
  3. Applicants must not have previously enrolled in an equivalent degree program in Taiwan.
  4. Awardees must physically attend and complete semiconductor-related academic courses at NCHU, meeting the minimum academic requirements. Exchange students are required to pass at least two relevant courses.
  5. Awardees must fully cooperate with all regulations and policies of NCHU and the laws in Taiwan. NCHU reserves the right to interpret and make final decisions on any matters not explicitly covered in these terms and conditions.
