ROC United ID Number
For those without ARC but need to open a bank account, declare income taxes return, or apply for a driver's license, one has to have a ROC ID number.
If applicants possessed a residence permit or have applied for this number before, please inform the coordinator of the National Immigration Agency.
Required documents:
- An application form
- The original and one photocopy of the passport, including visa.

Processing time: about an hour
Visitor Visa Extension
The applicant can apply for an extension within 15 days prior to the expiration of a visitor visa.

Restrictions:
(a) The duration of each such extension shall not be longer than that of the original visa.
(b) The holder of a visitor visa may not exceed staying six months of aggregate time in the country.
(c) It shall be extended only twice and the period of extension shall not be longer than 60 days.
Required documents:
- An application form.
- The original and one photocopy of the passport with the visitor visa.
- In accordance with the specific situation, the following documents may be required:
(a) Chinese language training certificate:
- An enrollment certificate or class schedule from an approved public or private language center or university.
- Attendance record (except the first extension)
(b) Other: an approval letter from an authorized government agency.
Change Visitor Visa to Resident Visa
International students who enter Taiwan with a Visitor Visa (for studying purposes only – FS) may directly apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) by submitting the following documents through the online system:
- Medical Examination Certificate for Resident Visa (Form B)
- Authenticated diploma
- Certificate of Enrollment issued by the University
The National Immigration Agency (NIA) recommends that students submit the online ARC application at least 2–3 weeks before the visa expires.
ARC Fees:
- ARC fee: NTD 1,000 per year
- If entering Taiwan with a Visitor Visa (for studying purposes only), an additional NTD 2,200 is required
→ Total for the first year: NTD 3,200
- If applying for a two-year ARC, the total fee is NTD 4,200

Resident Visa
Students who enter Taiwan with a Resident Visa must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) through the online system within 30 days starting from the day after arrival.
Failure to apply within the required period will result in a fine ranging from NTD 2,000 to NTD 10,000.

Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)
The Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) is an official identification document proving legal residency in Taiwan. Students should keep it properly and pay close attention to its expiration date, as it is a very important document.
International students who:
- enter Taiwan with a Resident Visa, or
- obtain a Resident Visa in Taiwan by changing visa status,
Must apply for an ARC within 30 days after arrival in Taiwan or from the date the Resident Visa is issued, via the online application system.
- ARC processing time is approximately 10 working days
- The ARC can be collected with the payment receipt
Any change of residential address or other residency information must be reported within 30 days with relevant documents.
Violators will be fined NTD 2,000–10,000.
Students who continue their studies must apply for ARC extension within 3 months before the ARC expires.
If you plan to leave Taiwan during your studies, please make sure your ARC will still be valid upon re-entry. If necessary, apply for an ARC extension at an NIA service center before departure.
Students who apply for leave of absence, withdrawal, or graduation, and hold an ARC issued for study purposes, will have their ARC invalidated 14 days after completing the school withdrawal procedures.Please leave Taiwan before the ARC becomes invalid. Students returning to Taiwan after a leave of absence must apply for a new visa to re-enter Taiwan.

Overstaying ARC
• Overstay less than 30 days (excluding the 30th day):
If the student is still enrolled, they may apply for an extension after paying the fine and extension fee.
• Overstay 30 days or more (including the 30th day):
Even if still enrolled, the student must leave Taiwan within 7 days after paying the fine and reapply for a visa to return for studies.

Fine Regulations for Overstaying
• 1–10 days: NTD 10,000
• 11–30 days: NTD 20,000
• 31–60 days: NTD 30,000
• 61–90 days: NTD 40,000
• Over 91 days: NTD 50,000

Hong Kong, Macau or Chinese Residents shall hold a vlid Taiwan Entry Permit to enter Taiwan.
