Main Topic

Collection of Taiwan Tourism and Exploration of Local Scenery

The beauty of Taiwan's natural / cultural landscape.
Surrounded by mountains and the sea, Taiwan has a rich and diverse ecosystem and biological species. The traces of people's lives endow the natural landscapes with the charm of human characteristics, such as coastal mountains, rural scenery, cultural landscapes, historical scenes, etc. The Arts & Culture Awards aim to encourage international students to share representative and distinctive landscapes of various counties and cities in Taiwan, in order to exchange ideas and promote Taiwan's local scenery and culture.

Competition Categories

Entries to the Competition: Photography, Short Film, Notebook Design.
※Each student can participate in three items simultaneously, but can only submit a maximum of 1 entry per competition.

Photography

I. Scoring criteria

  • Theme: The work shall showcase the natural and cultural landscapes of Taiwan.
  • Shooting composition: Composition expression, techniques, lighting, framing, etc.
  • Creativity: Creative ideas, originality, characters, etc.
  • Creation concept: Story background, cultural transmission, work concept, etc.

II. Competition specifications and criteria

  • There are no restrictions on color or black-and-white photos, and digital files shall be provided. Only one work shall be submitted for each campaign.
  • Format: a PDF, jpg, jpeg, or png file with a resolution of 300 dpi (file size should be limited to 5MB or less). The size of the sheet must be at least 2400*3600 pixels in length and width.
  • The file name of the work shall contain the name of the author, the title of the work (within 10 words), and the name of the school, in order. Ex: Name_ Title of work_ School.
  • Please provide a text (within 50 words) to explain the concept of the work.

Short Film


I. Scoring criteria

  • Storytelling: The ability of the content to convey a story without deviating from the theme.
  • Techniques of filming: Lighting, sound, music, visuals, etc.
  • Creativity: Creative ideas, originality, characters, etc.

II. Competition specifications and criteria 

  • The maximum video duration is 180 seconds (within 3 minutes), including the beginning and the end.
  • It is forbidden to use multiple photos in a video, and it shall be presented in a dynamic manner.
  • There is no limitation on shooting tools and video types, including animation and digital audio.
  • Format: mp4, avi, or wmv.
  • Please present the title of the film and the name of the author (individual participant) in subtitles at the beginning of the film, and present the NUST Logo at the end. (Download HERE [1] or [2]. You can choose/edit any of them).
  • ENGLISH subtitles are required. 
  • The file name of the work shall contain the name of the author, the title of the work (within 10 words), the name of the school, and the file format in order. Ex: Name_ Title of work_ School_ mp4.
  • The video must NOT contain any copyrighted work(s) belonging to third parties, including the background music. 
  • The content of the video must comply with the general classification of the "Film Classification Act" and must not violate public order or morality.

Notebook Design (Electric/Hand-drawn)


I. Scoring criteria

  • Theme: The work shall showcase the natural and cultural landscapes of Taiwan.
  • Composition skills: Composition expression, techniques, colors, etc.
  • Creativity: Creative ideas, originality, characters, etc.
  • Creation concept: Story background, cultural transmission, work concept, etc.

II. Competition specifications and criteria

  • The work may be presented in computer graphics or hand-drawn scanned files. Notebook design shall not be presented entirely in photos but shall include retouching or graphic design to highlight creative ideas. 
  • The layout shall be vertical, and the size of the front cover and the back cover shall be set to 150*107mm (3mm bleed on all four edges).
  • Format: Two PDF files(front/back cover) with the resolution of 300 dpi (file size should be limited to 5MB or less). 
  • The file name of the work shall contain the name of the author, the title of the work (within 10 words), and the name of the school, in order. Ex: Name_ Title of work_ School.
  • Please provide a text (within 50 words) to explain the concept of the work.

- Gold prize: NTD 10000 & certificate

- Gold prize: NTD 6000 & certificate

※All cash prize awards are before tax. The tax rate is 20% for those who have stayed in Taiwan for less than 183 days.

The General Terms of Participation

  1. Entries must be works that have not been awarded in other competitions and have not been used for commercial purposes.
  2. In case of data entry errors, inaccurate information, or files that do not conform to the format and specifications of the entry, the Organizer may send an email to the entrant for correction, and the entrant must reply and provide the information within 7 days. If the entrant fails to reply or cannot be contacted after the deadline, the organizer may decide that the entrant is disqualified.
  3. Entries must be original works of authorship and must not be re-made, copied, synthesized, or plagiarized in any way that is contrary to social mores. Entrants are also obliged to ensure that their entries do not infringe on the trademarks, patents, copyright, and other relevant laws and regulations of third parties. If any breach of the rules is proven, the entrant will be disqualified and no other entrant will be eligible for the prize. If an entrant who has already received an award is found to be ineligible, the organizer may recover the original award. The entrant is responsible for any violation of copyright law and related laws, not the organizer.
  4. The copyright of the winning work and the digital files of the original work (in accordance with Chapter 3, Section 4 of the Copyright Act) shall be unconditionally transferred to the organizer from the date of the announcement of the award. The winner undertakes not to exercise his or her copyright in the work against the organizer. The organizer has the right to use the work in public (e.g. publicity, display, exhibition, publication in newspapers and magazines, web production, issuance, publication, sale of publications, or printing of books, etc.) without payment.
  5. All successful entries are not to be returned, regardless of whether they win a prize or not (including those that do not match the specifications). If you wish to keep your original work, please reserve your work first or enter at your own discretion.
  6. If the winner cannot be contacted or the entry does not reach a certain standard (to be decided by the jury), it will be deemed that the entrant is not eligible for the award and no other entrant will be substituted.
